Hard Times Can Provide Opportunities…

In the book “The Dalai Lama, His Essential Wisdom”, his Holiness talks about how ‘troubled times’ can be used as an opportunity for us to evolve…

“Through a difficult period you can learn to develop inner strength, determination, and courage to face the problem. If you become discouraged, that is the real failure; you have lost a valuable chance to develop…When things go smoothly, life can easily become like an official ceremony in which protocol, like how you walk and how you speak, is more important than content. But at a time of crisis these things are pointless…you have to deal with reality and become more practical.”

“Hard times build determination and inner strength. Through them we can also come to appreciate the uselessness of anger. Instead of getting angry, nurture a deep caring and respect for troublemakers because by creating such trying circumstances, they provide us with invaluable opportunities to practice tolerance and patience.”

Troublemakers, people who aren’t likable, who are negative & toxic can actually serve a purpose for us: (1) they’re an ‘in our face’ example, & a great sensory reference for What Not To Be Like, and (2) they provide opportunities for us to ‘practice not reacting or feeling anger toward them’…when we feel tolerance toward them, we’re emitting positive energy, and not letting their toxic energy pollute our free will to choose to feel good…we need these chances to practice staying positive no matter what’s going on around us!

Let’s not buckle under during tough times…let’s arm ourselves with patience & understanding & then see what happens! Let’s be our Best & choose Peaceful solutions!
