Charter For Compassion & The Dalai Lama…
Global ‘Charter for Compassion’ launches new social movement to create a more compassionate world
Human beings are social creatures and a concern for each other is the very basis of our life together - His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
NOVEMBER 2, 2009 - The Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education is pleased to announce that it has become a partner of the Charter for Compassion.
The Charter is bringing together the voices from all cultures and spiritual/faith communities to remind the world that we all share the core principle of compassion. The Charter will proclaim a principle embraced by every faith and by every moral code, religious or otherwise. It is often referred to as the golden rule, which requires that we use empathy — moral imagination — to put ourselves in others’ shoes. We should act toward them as we would want them to act toward us. We should refuse, under any circumstance, to carry out actions which would cause them harm.
Partners of the Charter around the world already work tirelessly in the name of compassion and will continue to celebrate the Charter in their efforts. Starting Thursday, November 12, a week of celebratory activities will take place around the world - in places of community, houses of worship, public spaces, schools, universities and workplaces.
